And the LORD said, "I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.  Ex 33:19

VISION OF HEAVEN AND WORSHIP: 4:1-5:14

1.              Vision of God as creator – 4:1-11

The purpose of Chapter four is to show that regardless how terrible things get, God is on His throne.  He is the creator who preceded all and He is the God who will remain on His throne throughout history.

a.     the open door, 4:1

b.    the throne of God, 4:2,3

c.     the twenty-four elders, 4:4

d.    the torches of fire, 4:5

e.     the sea of glass, 4:6a

f.      the four living creatures, 4:6b-8

g.    the creatures worship the creator, 4:9-11

2.              Vision of God as redeemer – 5:1-14

Chapter five shows adoration for the Lamb slain, who is Jesus Christ.  He alone is worthy to open the book and to break its seals.  This represents judgment and presents Christ as the righteous judge.

a.     the scroll – who is worthy to open it? 5:1-4

b.    the lion – lamb, 5:5-7

c.     the new song, 5:8-10

d.    the redeemed worship the redeemer, 5:11-14

  Questions:

  1.  Is Revelation 4:1 the Rapture?  Why or Why not?

  2.  Chp. 4, v. 5:  “the Seven Spirits of God”;  Is this the same as the Holy Spirit?

  3.  Chp. 5: v. 3;  Why was no one worthy to break the seals?  And in v. 5, why was the lamb worthy to break the seals?  And why was John weeping?

  4.  Chp.5: v.10;  Why redemption?
